Short Stories: Love At First S**x (Part 3)
So whiles enjoying his kisses and losing her senses, thankfully a part of her sense could still function and she thought, if anything happens between them, it will be a disaster. First, Max has not even proposed to her and second, she does not really love this guy. So apart from him thinking of her as an ‘easy go’, it will also ruin their friendship and friends with benefits is not something she is a fan of.
So she immediately brought her whole sense back into her being and found the courage to push him away. “No!!! She said softly "I’m sorry but we
can’t do this”, she said, whiles picking up her shirt and dressing up as quickly
as possible. “I need to leave”, she said, rushing out of the room even before Max could utter a word.
Max then rushed after her, feeling terribly
bad. “Serwaa please wait!! He said with
a shake in his voice. “I’m very sorry, I didn’t mean for that to
happen please don’t be mad”, he said.
Serwaa had then stopped by the car, but she
was also feeling so shy, she couldn’t look him in the face. “No Max, you don’t
need to apologize for anything. I am not angry at you. Just that, I am embarrassed”,
she replied looking away.
“Oh no Serwaa don’t feel embarrassed please.
I should rather feel that way because I started it and I shouldn’t
even have, I really am sorry”, he said. “But please give me a
second lemme grab the car keys from the room and drop you off at home please” Max
requested.
So he rushed inside the room, picked up the
car keys, locked his door and came to open the car for her to sit, and he drove
off. And their entire ride back to Serwaa’s house was done in silence with just the radio playing.
They didn’t say a word to each other. Max was focused on the driving and Serwaa
buried her face in her phone scrolling through social media and feeling like an
‘idiot’.
They finally got to Serwaa’s house and she
thanked him for the ride and for the book once again and stepped out of the car
“see you later” she said but in her head, she had already decided not to see him
later or ever and she made her way into her house.
Soon as she entered the house, she met her
sister in the door way and before her sister could ask her anything, she pulled
her by the hand, trying to get her back inside the room “We need to talk. Something
very very unexpected happened today” she said. But her sister was on her way to run an errand for their mom so she asked her to wait for her to get back.
So Serwaa headed to the room, threw herself on the bed, and looking up to
the ceiling after a few seconds, she started having flashbacks from what
had happened with Max. “Damn how did I let that happen?” she asked herself. The
thought of kissing him back and even taking off her shirt drove her crazy. She couldn’t believe she actually let that happen but before she
could get out of her thoughts her sister came in.
"What did you say has happened ES?, she asked immediately she entered the room". So Serwaa told her everything and when she finished, she realized her sister had a silly smile on her face. “Why are you smiling like that Barbs? I just told you my issue and you are just giving me a silly smile”, Serwaa said with a hard stare and seriousness on her face.
“Why didn't you stop him right from the moment
he started kissing you?”, her sister asked after she had wiped off the silly smile from her face. “That is the problem! I have no
idea why I didn't”, Serwaa replied. “Mmmmm Serwaa are you falling for him?” her
sister asked with a silly stare and smile again but Serwaa insisted
she had no feelings for Max.
“I have not even for once thought about him
like that since we’ve known each other. I have always told you I see him as a
good friend but not one with benefits. I don’t even know why I kissed him back”, she explained. "But I won’t
let it happen ever again”, she added.
“Weeell, maybe it is because you miss the touch of
a man. You know you’ve been single for so long” her sister teased. “OMG Barbs you
could be right”, Serwaa also replied and they both laughed out hard. “But seriously, I feel when I see him again our encounter is going to be awkward and I will feel uncomfortable so I have decided
to give us some space till I feel we are back to normal again. So I am not going to
join him for rides anymore till then”, Serwaa said to her sister, and this time
with seriousness in her voice.
“Have you told him that?”, Barbs asked. “I
will call and talk to him tonight”, Serwaa replied. “But will he
understand?”, her sister questioned. “Even if he doesn’t that is my decision so he
will have to. It's for the best”, Serwaa replied, as she got up to undress and freshen up.
So that evening after dinner, Serwaa called Max to have that conversation with him. At first Max didn't agree and thought it was not necessary. "I will not ever misbehave and let that happen again I promise you. You don't even have to come to my house ever if that will solve the problem but please don't cancel the rides and spending time together. It is not necessary", Max desperately tried to convince her.
But Serwaa explained that she has nothing against him, and she doesn't consider him the problem. "I just think when we meet again it will be awkward and our vibe might not be as comfortable as it used to be so lets just take a break from the meetings for like a week or two and talk over the phone till everything is back to normal", she said.
The conversation went on and on, as Max was not giving in to the idea. He was finding it hard to understand not only because he thought it was not necessary but because of his feelings for her. The thought of not seeing her and spending time with her was something he didn't want to deal with. So he almost said "Serwaa I love you and I cannot go weeks without seeing you", but he didn't. He thought if he tells her now and she doesn't feel the same, it could make matters worse. She might probably never want to meet him to have an awkward vibe with him so he just held in his words.
But at the end of their conversation, Serwaa managed to win over him but she had to make the break a week, with just talks over the phone just so they will be normal when they meet up again. So they said their good nights and went off the phone.
"How did it go?", Barbs who was watching a program on TV in the hall, asked the moment she came into the room. "It was hard but he agreed to a week. "I am going to miss free rides for a week", Serwaa said with a silly cry face. "Well it's never too late. You can call back to change your story", her sister said. "It's for the best", Serwaa replied. "Then deal with the consequences", Barbs replied with a teasing face and they both giggled.
So Serwaa and Max didn't see each other as they agreed. Serwaa did miss his company and the free rides too (especially when she joins the public transport). But Max missed her much more than that. Each day he wished she will call back and say she has changed her mind but each day passed with them just talking over the phone and it is all about school, work or some silly talks and Serwaa didn't change her decision.
So after a week and three days since their break, before they could plan and meet up, Max had to go to Accra for some job meetings and wont be back till after two weeks. It was a little more convenient for Serwaa (except for the rides) but not so much for Max. So on the Friday he told Serwaa about it, he asked if they could meet on the weekend before he leaves on Monday and Serwaa agreed to meet him up on Sunday after church.
So they did meet at one of their favourite ice cream joints and their meeting was not soo awkward. They had nice chats and laughs. Though Max was not too happy about leaving, he didn't let it show or tell it out to Serwaa. He manned up and acted like he was okay. But he did tell her he will miss her and she also told him she will miss him too, but they both said it in a friendly way -though Max didn't. So after their hangout, Max dropped her off at home as usual and he headed back home, a not-so-happy guy.
And then after two weeks when Max came back, they had already planned to meet the next day which was a holiday and on that fateful Friday afternoon, when Max ended up in Serwaa's house, they both didn't see it coming......
