Actress, Francia Raisa Donates A Kidney To Her BFF, Selena Gomez



Selena Gomez revealed on Thursday that she had been MIA throughout summer because she had to undergo surgery to have a kidney transplant due to her struggle with Lupus nephritis , and the donor was her friend, Francia Raisa.

Finding someone to agree to donate their organ to you is not easy to come by – even if the person will be paid for it, not to talk of finding someone who will willingly give it to you. Such an incredible friend she is. We all need this kind of friend in our lives, or even great if we could have the heart to be that friend.

Selena shared the the news on IG  and accompanied her post with photos showing her surgery scar and another of herself and Francia holding hands across their hospital beds. She added that she looks forward to sharing more on her journey with her fans.

Lupus is an autoimmune disease, where the body mistakenly attacks its own tissues, sometimes including the kidneys. And according to experts, a single kidney transplant can resolve the problem.

Selena revealed she was diagnosed with Lupus in 2015 and took a break from her career last year to deal with anxiety, panic attacks and depression stemming from her battle with the disease.



I’m very aware some of my fans had noticed I was laying low for part of the summer and questioning why I wasn’t promoting my new music, which I was extremely proud of. So I found out I needed to get a kidney transplant due to my Lupus and was recovering. It was what I needed to do for my overall health. I honestly look forward to sharing with you, soon my journey through these past several months as I have always wanted to do with you. Until then I want to publicly thank my family and incredible team of doctors for everything they have done for me prior to and post-surgery. And finally, there aren’t words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa. She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me. I am incredibly blessed. I love you so much sis. Lupus continues to be very misunderstood but progress is being made. Francia is an actress best known for her role as Adrian Lee on the TV series "The Secret Life of the American Teenager." She is currently casted for the series, "Grown-ish": 'Black-ish' spinoff.
